What this page covers
This page explains the sequence families follow to request ISEE testing accommodations from E3n (formerly ERB), the organization that administers the test. It covers who applies, which documents are required, how long review takes, and how the choice of test format interacts with the approved accommodations. It does not decide whether a particular student qualifies. Eligibility and the specific accommodations granted are determined by E3n after it reviews the documents, and families with questions about a specific case should contact the E3n accommodations team listed at the end of this page.
The process runs in a fixed order, and the order matters. Accommodations are requested and approved first. Registration for a test date comes afterward. Reversing the two is the most common source of avoidable rescheduling fees.
Step 1: Confirm the situation and gather documents
The first step is to establish whether the student has documentation that E3n accepts. According to the accommodations page on admission.org, any student with a documented disability may be eligible, and a disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity or bodily function. A family does not need to decide eligibility in advance. The task at this stage is to collect paperwork.
E3n asks for a Current School Statement form, completed by a school administrator or specialist, together with supporting documentation. The supporting documentation can be any one of the following types.
| Document | What the accommodations page requires | Date limit |
|---|---|---|
| IEP, 504 plan or private school plan | Must describe a student who routinely receives specific accommodations because of a disability | Dated within the last 3 years |
| Professional evaluation | From a licensed or properly credentialed professional who completed an individualized assessment of the student | Dated within the last 3 years |
| Past approvals on similar tests | Proof of accommodations approved on a test such as the SSAT, HSPT, SAT, ACT or PSAT | Within the last 3 years |
| Current School Statement | Form completed by a school administrator or specialist describing the accommodations the student currently receives | Part of every request |

The Current School Statement depends on someone at the student’s school, so families should ask for it early. A sample of the request form is available on the accommodations page on admission.org, and it is useful to share with the school contact so that the statement covers what E3n expects. A family that is unsure whether a particular document qualifies should write to the documentation address listed at the end of this page.
Step 2: Submit the request in the parent account
The request is made by the parent or guardian, not by the school and not by the student. The parent creates or signs in to the ISEE parent account, selects the accommodations option, and uploads the Current School Statement together with the supporting documentation.
Families should follow the current screens and instructions in the registration account, because the account interface and the form versions can change between testing seasons. ISEEPrep does not receive, review or submit any documents on behalf of a family.
Step 3: Wait for the decision before registering
E3n advises submitting the request at least several weeks before the date the family has in mind. Once an application is complete, review and approval can take one to two weeks. E3n’s guidance also states that families should not register for a test until the accommodations decision has been received, to avoid rescheduling fees.
| Item | What the accommodations page states |
|---|---|
| Who submits | Parent or guardian, in the parent account |
| When to submit | At least several weeks before the test |
| Review time | One to two weeks once the application is complete |
| Registration | After the decision, not before |
| Validity | 24 months from the date of approval |
| Score report | Accommodations are not flagged |

The 24-month validity is useful for families planning more than one test. The ISEE can be taken once per testing season and up to three times in a school year, so a single approval can cover several sittings, including a retake. Families should check the approval date against the dates of any planned test, and review the test dates page for how the three seasons are organized.
Step 4: Choose a test format that offers the approved accommodations
After approval, the student registers in the usual way. The test format matters, because the accommodations page lists a different set of accommodations for each one. The table below reproduces the comparison on that page, using the column labels shown on the page.
| Accommodation | Paper | Online | At-Home | Prometric |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Extended time (1.5x) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Double time (2x) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Calculator use | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Computer for the essay | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Medical supplies, snacks and drinks | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Reader (audio) | Yes | Yes | Yes | Not listed |
| Reader (paper) | Yes | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed |
| Speech to text | Not listed | Yes | Yes | Not listed |
| Mark answers in the booklet | Yes | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed |
| Large print | Yes | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed |
| Scribe | Yes | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed |
| Other school accommodations | Yes | Yes | Yes | Not listed |

Two patterns stand out. Prometric centers offer the shortest list, with no reader, no speech to text and no option for other school accommodations. Paper testing offers the longest list, and it is the only format listed for large print, a scribe and answers marked directly in the booklet. A student whose current school plan includes an item that appears only in the paper column should treat that as a reason to look at the testing options in the registration guide before committing to a format.
Individual testing and cost
Some students are tested alone. According to the registration page on admission.org, a student who tests individually with accommodations is the only student in the testing room, and availability is limited and varies by location. In-Office individual testing carries the following fees.
| Test format | Grades 2–4 | Grades 5–12 |
|---|---|---|
| In-Office, individual testing (with accommodations) | $210 | $255 |

The fees above are test fees. The accommodations page does not state a separate charge for the request itself, and families should confirm this on the accommodations page at the time of submission. For the full fee table across all four formats and the late and rescheduling charges, see the fees guide. Families who need financial help should note that fee waiver inquiries go to the school to which the student is applying, not to E3n.
Preparing with the accommodation in mind
Approval changes how the test is delivered, not what the test covers. A student with extended time still sees the same sections and question types, spread across longer timed blocks. Families may want the student to practice with the same arrangement, so that the pacing, the reader or the speech-to-text tool is familiar on the day. The test day checklist lists what to bring, and students with approved accommodations should prepare any item the accommodation requires.
Practice under accommodation conditions is a matter of familiarity, not of predicting a score. ISEEPrep does not convert practice results into ISEE scores.
Where to ask
Questions about accommodations go to E3n, not to ISEEPrep. The accommodations pages list iseeaccommodations@e3n.org for general accommodations questions and iseereviewer@e3n.org for documentation requirements. The ISEE support line is 1 (800) 446-0320, open Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm ET. Families who want help organizing the paperwork timeline around a test season may book a free consultation.
Frequently asked questions
Who can request ISEE testing accommodations?
A parent or guardian makes the request through the parent account, and the student's current school completes a supporting statement. E3n states that any student with a documented disability may be eligible. Eligibility is decided by E3n after it reviews the submitted documents, not by the family or by ISEEPrep.
What documents does E3n require for ISEE accommodations?
The accommodations page on admission.org asks for at least one of the following: an IEP, 504 plan or private school plan; an individualized professional evaluation; or proof of accommodations approved on a similar test such as the SSAT, HSPT, SAT, ACT or PSAT. Each must be dated within the last 3 years. A Current School Statement form is also part of the request.
How long does approval take, and how far in advance should families apply?
E3n advises submitting the request at least several weeks before the intended test date. Once a request is complete, review and approval can take one to two weeks. Families should confirm that every required document is attached before submitting.
Should families register for a test date before the accommodations decision arrives?
No. E3n's guidance is to wait until the decision is received before registering, in order to avoid rescheduling fees. After approval, the student registers for a test format that offers the approved accommodation.
Do ISEE accommodations appear on the score report?
No. E3n states that accommodations are not flagged on the student's score report.
How long do approved ISEE accommodations last?
Approved accommodations are valid for 24 months from the date of approval. A student who tests again within that period does not need a new approval, although the request must be renewed after it expires.
Do all four ISEE test formats offer the same accommodations?
No. Extended time, double time, calculator use, a computer for the essay and medical supplies are listed for all four formats on the accommodations page. Other items, such as a scribe, large print or a paper reader, are listed only for paper testing. Families should compare the table on that page before choosing a format.
